A Death Has Occurred

What should my family do next?

When a death has occurred, the cemetery should be contacted as soon as possible. Once the cemetery office receives your call, the cemetery staff & grounds crew are notified of a pending funeral.

BEFORE THE FUNERAL:

If your loved one made pre-arrangements for burial, the next-of-kin will be contacted by the cemetery office staff to arrange an appointment to verify the burial arrangements. During this appointment, there will be an interment authorization form for the next-of-kin to sign. This form gives the cemetery permission to complete a burial, entombment or inurnment. There is also an opening & closing charge that must be paid-in-full before a funeral is scheduled at the cemetery. The opening & closing costs are based on the type of cemetery space being used and the day of the service.

If your loved one passed away unexpectedly, the cemetery office staff will contact the next-of-kin, after funeral arrangements have been made at the funeral home of your choosing, to arrange an appointment to select cemetery space and verify the burial arrangements. Before this appointment, the family will need to decide if the loved one will be buried (traditional funeral) or if cremation will be selected. From there, a cemetery space can be selected. There will also be an interment authorization form for the next-of-kin to sign. This form gives the cemetery permission to complete a burial, entombment or inurnment. There is also an opening & closing charge, in addition to the cemetery space, that must be paid-in-full before a funeral is scheduled at the cemetery. The opening & closing costs are based on the type of cemetery space being used and the day of the service.

DAY OF THE FUNERAL SERVICE

On the day of the funeral, the cemetery staff will have the gravesite, crypt, niche prepared in advance of the service. Once the funeral procession arrives at the cemetery entrance, our staff will greet and guide the procession to the gravesite.

TRADITIONAL FUNERAL

Church/Funeral Home/Chapel Service before burial or entombment. The gravesite will be prepared in advance. Once the funeral procession arrives, the cemetery staff will guide the procession to the gravesite/crypt. After the service, the family can choose to remain at the grave/crypt as it is closed, or they may choose to leave before our staff closes the grave/crypt. Any flowers left after the service will be placed at the gravesite/crypt. The cemetery grounds crew will remove these flowers as they wilt.

CRYPTSIDE-GRAVESIDE FUNERAL

Funeral Service is held at the gravesite, without a church/funeral home/chapel service. The grave/crypt will be prepared in advance of the funeral service. The cemetery staff will guide the family & friends to the gravesite/crypt as they arrive. After the service, the family can choose to remain at the grave/crypt as it is closed, or they may choose to leave before our staff closes the grave/crypt. Any flowers left after the service will be placed at the grave/crypt. The cemetery grounds crew will remove these flowers as they wilt.

COLUMBARIUM NICHE CREMATION SERVICE

Funeral Service is held at the columbarium. The niche will be prepared in advance of the funeral service, which includes the setup of 1 tent, 15 chairs, grass and a table for the presentation of the urn and any flowers, photos or other memorabilia to honor your loved one. The cemetery staff will guide the family & friends to the columbarium as they arrive. After the service, the family can choose to remain at the niche as it is closed, or they may choose to leave before our staff closes the niche. Any flowers left after the service will be placed at the columbarium. The cemetery grounds crew will remove these flowers as they wilt.

AFTER THE FUNERAL SERVICE

After the funeral, the cemetery staff will mail an after-care packet to the family. This packet will contain helpful information in regards to the cemetery (maps, rules & regulations, etc.)

If new cemetery space was purchased at the time of your loved one’s passing, please expect a deed for the interment rights to be issued within 90 days by mail.

If a bronze plaque needs to be ordered for the crypt/niche- the office will contact the family to confirm the spelling of the name, year of birth and year of death that should be on the plaque before it will be ordered. Allow up to 12 weeks for bronze plaques to be delivered & installed.

If a final date engraving is needed for an existing headstone, the cemetery office can assist with this service. The engraver completes any final date engravings within 4 weeks. There is a fee for this service, depending on the size & style of lettering to be added to the headstone.

If a bronze scroll is needed for an existing bronze plaque, the cemetery office will take a rubbing of the existing bronze plaque, along with measurements of the scroll that will be needed. The family will need to confirm the final date and pay for the costs associated with the bronze scroll.

If a new monument or bronze marker is needed, please contact the cemetery office before proceeding. There is an application for monument installation that must be completed before a monument or marker can be ordered or installed within the cemetery.

If you wish to make pre-arrangements and purchase additional cemetery space next to your loved one, please call the office to schedule an appointment. You can select the space you want to ensure your funeral wishes will be met. Cemetery space purchased in advance can be paid-in-full or a monthly payment can be made until the balance is paid off.
